When is after hours child care available?

Our after hours child care service starts bright and early on Monday at 6:00am and runs non-stop through to Saturday at 6:00am. That means we’re open 24 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Whether you need care in the early morning before work, in the evening after your shift, or even overnight, our centre is open and ready. This kind of flexibility can be a big help for shift workers, nurses, retail staff, and anyone with an unusual work schedule.

You can book regular times or casual care depending on what works for your family. We’ll always do our best to make it work.

What does a typical after hours routine look like?

Our after hours child care is built around calm routines that help your child feel at ease. Even though the sun might be down, the care and attention are just the same.

Here’s what usually happens during after hours child care:

Early evening

When kids arrive in the evening, they’re welcomed into a calm, quiet space. We offer dinner, which is warm, healthy, and cooked fresh. Kids eat together in small groups with their educators, just like they would at home.

After dinner, it’s time for quiet play, things like puzzles, books, drawing, or soft toys. This helps children relax and wind down for the night.

Bedtime

Each child has their own sleep space, with comfy bedding, soft lighting, and their familiar bedtime routine. If they use a dummy, comfort toy, or blanket from home, we make sure it’s close by.

We follow each child’s sleep routine as closely as possible, some kids like a cuddle and a story, others just want a quiet space to nod off.

Overnight

While your child sleeps, our trained childcare educators keep a close eye on them. We do regular checks to make sure they’re safe and comfortable. If your child wakes during the night, we’ll be there to soothe them and help them settle again.

We keep everything quiet and calm so all children can rest well.

Early morning

Children who stay overnight are gently woken in the morning if needed. We help them get ready for the day and serve a healthy breakfast. Then they can join in on daytime play and learning if they’re staying on for the day.

If you’re picking them up in the morning after a night shift, we’ll let you know how their night went and pass on anything important.

What activities are offered?

During after hours child care, we keep things calm and simple. The focus is on winding down and feeling safe. But that doesn’t mean it’s boring!

Depending on your child’s age and how they’re feeling, they might enjoy:

• quiet sensory play

• gentle group games

• story time

• drawing and colouring

• soft building blocks or puzzles

• one-on-one chats with educators

For little ones, we also offer lots of cuddles, soft music, and calm space to move around.

Our educators are great at reading the room. If kids are tired, we go straight into bedtime routines. If they still have a bit of energy, we give them a chance to play before they settle down.

What’s provided?

At Kaleidoscope Kids Redbank, our after hours child care is all-inclusive. You don’t need to pack much at all.

We provide:

• dinner

• breakfast (if staying overnight)

• nappies and wipes

• sunscreen

• soft bedding for sleep

• all activities and play items

All meals are cooked fresh and follow healthy nutrition guidelines. If your child has allergies or dietary needs, just let us know, we’re happy to work with you.

How do we help children settle in?

We know that starting after hours child care can feel like a big step, for both children and parents. That’s why we focus on making each child feel at home.

Before starting care, we recommend visiting the centre with your child. This way, they can get to know the space and meet the educators in a relaxed way. You’re welcome to stay for a while and chat with us about routines, sleep habits, and anything else you’d like us to know.

On the first few nights, we’ll keep everything as familiar as possible, same meal preferences, same bedtime rituals, same cuddles.

And if your child feels unsure, that’s okay too. Our team is patient, warm, and experienced in helping little ones settle at their own pace.

Who will be looking after my child?

Our after hours child care team includes trained, experienced educators who are passionate about helping children feel safe and loved.

There are always at least two educators in the centre overnight, and all staff hold current first aid and CPR training. We also follow strict child safety guidelines and keep open communication with parents.
