Not every family needs overnight childcare. But if you do, finding a place that does it well can be tough. We've put together some info on how it works at our Redbank centre. Our overnight care guide covers a typical evening from drop-off to morning. Below are the questions parents ask most once they start looking seriously.
Redbank is at 57 Brisbane Road. It's one of two centres in our group that offers overnight care - the other is Rothwell. If your work has weird hours or you don't have family nearby, this is the kind of thing we set the service up for.
Frequently asked questions
Do the kids actually sleep?
Most do. But every child settles differently. We keep the sleep rooms quiet and calm, and try to stick to each child's home routine as much as we can. For most kids, that means they're asleep within their normal timeframe. Some nights it takes longer. Our team doesn't rush them.
Is there a bedtime routine?
Yeah, we keep it the same each night. Kids feel safer when they know what's coming. Helps them settle.
What if my child wakes up during the night?
There's always someone around. We check on sleeping children about every 10 minutes. If your child stirs or wakes up upset, someone is there straight away to help them settle back down.
Is someone awake all night?
Yes. Our overnight team stays awake during their shift. Those 10 minute checks get logged with timestamps. So there's a proper record of each child's night, not just a vague promise that someone's keeping an eye on things.
How many carers are there overnight?
We keep the required ratios all hours. At minimum, two educators are on site through the night.
What security do you have?
CCTV across the property. Controlled entry - only authorised people can get in. Car park behind locked gates. Same level of security as daytime, just running through the night too.
What do the kids eat at night?
Our chef makes dinner fresh each day. Menus are planned for different dietary and cultural needs. It's not the same meal for every child.
Can I pack my own food?
We usually provide meals in-house rather than outside food. But if your child has specific needs or preferences, let us know and we'll sort out a menu that works.
What if my child needs medication overnight?
No problem. We can give medication when needed. Before your child starts, we'll get the right forms filled out so our overnight team knows exactly what to do.
Can siblings stay in the same room?
Yes. We know siblings feel better together overnight, especially the first few times. So we make that happen.
What should I pack?
Not much. Cot sheets and a light blanket. We handle the rest.
Can I call during the night to check in?
Anytime. You don't need to wait for a good moment. You can also check the Early Works app for live updates on your child's evening without needing to call.
