If you've been searching for childcare in north Brisbane, you've probably noticed most of the big name centres list an address somewhere south of the river, or a good half hour drive from Redcliffe and the surrounding suburbs. That's frustrating when you just want somewhere close enough that drop off doesn't eat into your whole morning.
Kaleidoscope Kids Rothwell is our north side centre, right in the Rothwell and Redcliffe area. Here's what you actually need to know if you're looking at childcare, long day care or kindy on this side of Brisbane.
Why location actually matters
North Brisbane stretches out a fair way, and if you've ever tried to get from Redcliffe into the city and back with a toddler in tow, you know exactly why a centre close to home makes such a difference. Less time in the car means more time for the bits that actually matter, breakfast together, a proper goodbye at drop off, not being frazzled by pick up.
Our Rothwell centre is at 2 Linthaven Drive, easy to get to whether you're commuting into the city or sticking local for work.
What childcare looks like at our Rothwell centre
We welcome up to 136 kids aged six weeks to six years, with seven purpose built rooms and outdoor spaces kids actually want to be in, bike tracks, sandpits, play forts, water play, the lot.
We run care across every age and stage:
Baby day care from 6 weeks
Early years learning for toddlers and preschoolers
Kindergarten for the year before school, including Queensland Free Kindy
Rothwell's also one of the only centres around here offering 24 hour overnight care, six days a week, which makes a real difference if you're a shift worker or your roster just doesn't play nice with a 9 to 5.
What long day care actually means
Long day care is full day care built around a standard work day, roughly 6am to 6pm, though at Rothwell we go further with overnight options too. It's less about drop in babysitting and more about giving your child the same educators and the same routine every single day, so they settle in properly instead of starting fresh each time.
Kindy and preschool at Rothwell
The year before school counts for a lot. Our kindergarten program follows Queensland's early years framework, building the literacy, numeracy and social skills kids need before starting Prep. If your child's turning 4, they're likely eligible for Queensland Free Kindy, which covers 15 hours a week during school terms. We've written up the full details in our Queensland Free Kindy 2026 guide if you want to check eligibility.
What it'll actually cost you
Fees depend on your child's age and how many days you need, and most families get some level of Child Care Subsidy regardless of income. Run your own numbers through our CCS calculator before you get in touch, it only takes a minute and gives you a real number to work with.
Not sure when to start?
There's no single right age. Some parents start at 6 weeks when leave runs out, others wait until closer to kindy age, and both are completely fine. If you're still weighing it up, our guide on the best age to start childcare walks through what each stage actually looks like.
Come have a look for yourself
Honestly, the best way to know if a centre's right for you is to just come see it. Pop into Rothwell at 2 Linthaven Drive, meet the educators, have a wander through the rooms and outdoor areas, and get a feel for whether it's the right fit.
