There's nearly 20 daycare centres in Goodna now. That's a lot to look through. We wanted to skip the sales talk and just tell you what it's like when a child starts with us. Then you can decide for yourself.
Before the first day
We're on Alice Street, number 45. Most families come in for a look before they sign up. Bring your little one if you can. Even 20 minutes wandering through the rooms helps them remember the place when they come back. It feels less strange on day one.
The centre is privately owned. So the manager and educators you chat with during your visit? They're the ones looking after your child every day. No corporate office making calls from somewhere else. Not sure about timing? We've got a guide on starting ages that goes through each stage.
Settling in takes time
Every kid is different with this stuff. Some bounce right in and don't look back. Others want mum or dad to stay close for 20 minutes over a few mornings. Both are pretty normal. Our educators will give you a straight answer about how your child is going, based on what they saw during the visit.
We try to keep those first days short. A couple of hours, not a full day. No need to push things too fast.
The practical side of things
We take kids from 6 weeks to 6 years old. They're spread across 8 rooms based on age, so your child is with others at a similar stage. Our Goodna centre is open 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. No overnight or weekend care.
Nappies, wipes, sunscreen and meals are all in the daily fee. So you don't need to pack much - just a spare set of clothes and a toy or blanket that helps your child feel settled. Most families get the Child Care Subsidy. You can use our CCS calculator to see what you'd pay before you enrol.
What we focus on
Inside the rooms there's a good range of toys and learning materials. Outside we've got open space for free play. No rigid schedule. Kids get plenty of time to run around and be kids. Comparing daycare, long day care and kindy? Our guide to childcare types explains the differences.
